Greetings

What I love about Jakarta World Cinema is the energy it creates. This year marks the 4th edition, and it is proof that Jakarta World Cinema is not just an event — it has become part of cinema culture. Conversations flow, friendships are made, collaborations begin. Sometimes, the most memorable part of a festival happens outside the theater — in the hallways, in cafés, or even on the way home, when a film refuses to leave your thoughts.

This year, with the online screenings running for a full month on KlikFilm and the addition of the Short Movie Competition, we’re widening the space for those encounters. It means more chances for audiences to watch, and more opportunities for new voices to be heard.

I hope this festival gives you a film that stays with you, a meeting that inspires you, or a moment that changes the way you see things. That’s what cinema has always given me — and what I wish for you here.

Steering Committee, Jakarta World Cinema

Welcome to the 4th edition of Jakarta World Cinema! It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come together in just a few years. What began as a small dream has now grown into a festival that brings stories from every corner of the world to Jakarta. This year, we’re proud to share 185 films from 66 countries — each one offering its own unique voice and perspective.

One of the things I look forward to most this year is how we’re making the festival even more accessible. Our online screenings on KlikFilm will be available for a full month, from September 4 to October 4 — longer than ever before — giving audiences everywhere more time to discover and enjoy the lineup.

And I’m especially excited about the KlikFilm Short Movie Competition, a new step for us to discover and encourage young filmmakers. We believe that giving space to new talents is just as important as celebrating the icons, and I can’t wait to see the stories they have to tell.

Jakarta World Cinema is more than a festival — it’s a place where we come together, learn from each other, and let cinema remind us of the beauty of being connected. Thank you for joining us on this journey.

Executive Director, Jakarta World Cinema

Organizing a festival always comes with its own challenges. Each year, we are pushed not only to maintain consistency, but also to grow. This year, we have worked to present not only more films than the previous edition, but also more major titles — works that deserve to be experienced together, whether streaming on KlikFilm or in-person on the big screen at CGV. It is our effort to make Jakarta World Cinema a home for all kinds of works — from the intimate and modest to the grand and celebratory.

But a festival means little without its audience. That is why I ask you not to just read about it — come, and watch. Every seat filled, every pair of eyes watching, is a true form of support for the filmmakers and for the life of this festival. With your presence, this festival finds its meaning.

Greetings, beloved cinephiles and audiences of Jakarta World Cinema!

Jakarta World Cinema proudly returns for its fourth edition with online screenings on KlikFilm from September 4 – October 4, 2025, and in-person screenings at CGV Grand Indonesia from September 27 – October 4, 2025.

As Program Director, I work closely with Festival Director and colleagues at KlikFilm to expand the JWC lineup, offering an alternative global cinema experience often missing from mainstream releases and local annual events. KlikFilm, with its strong focus on world cinema and award-winning titles from leading festivals, makes this possible. CGV Cinemas also supports us by providing more screens than ever before.

This year, we bring back the Icon section, continue the First Feature Competition, and introduce new programs celebrating diversity, themes, and voices, including an In Focus on Ryûsuke Hamaguchi. JWC also features World Cinema, Discovery, Night Screamer for genre films, Weekender for animation, KlikFilm Originals—with the highlight omnibus The Period of Her by four rising female directors—plus restored classics and more documentaries in Real to Reel.

Alongside expanded online Masterclasses and Film Talks, we welcome international guests joining us in Jakarta for screenings and Q&As.

We hope JWC continues as Indonesia’s leading platform for world cinema—uniting filmmakers, industry, cinephiles, and audiences to share, discover, and celebrate cinema together.

Welcome to JAKARTA WORLD CINEMA 2025!
